As an art student, many years ago, I developed a great passion for the German Expressionist painters. As I explored their lives and times, I became fascinated by the extraordinary cultural flowering of Weimar Berlin. It was not long before I was listening to Kurt Weil - and my love of his music has been with me ever since.

I first encountered Meret when one of her concerts from Berlin was broadcast on German TV. I'd had a satellite dish installed so I could learn the language. The concert was so unlike anything else that I'd ever witnessed - this exactly must have been what it was like back in the 1920s. It was not long before I'd tracked down a couple of her recordings.

At the time, the internet was in its first flush of popularity and, wishing to explore this new medium, I resolved to build a site about Meret. It ran very successfully for over five years - people contributed concert pics, concert reviews and tour info. Even Meret and her agent appreciated the effort. Sadly, through lack of time, I've been unable to keep the site going these last few years, so the version now appended to my own site is rather out of date.
